 Florence Nightingale
(nurse & campaigner)
·         Famous for being the 'Lady with the Lamp' who organised the nursing of sick and wounded soldiers during the Crimean War
·         She campaigned tirelessly to improve health standards, publishing over 200 books, reports and pamphlets on hospital planning and organisation which are still widely read and respected today.
·         She inspired the founding of the International Red Cross which still awards the Florence Nightingale Medal for nurses who have given exceptional care to the sick and wounded in war or peace.




Emmeline Pankhurst
(suffragette & politician)
·         Known as a militant woman suffrage organizer in England in the early 20th century.
·         In 1889, Emmeline Pankhurst with her daughters founded an organization which won the vote for women in local elections in 1894.
·         Emmeline Pankhurst was involved in local politics many times.


J.K. Rowling
(author & film producer)
·         Famous for writing the Harry Potter series, Joanne Rowling was first published in 1997.
·         She was presented with an OBE for services to children’s literature, and is the recipient of many awards and honorary degrees.
·         She supports a wide number of charitable causes through her charitable trust Volant, and is the founder of Lumos, a charity working to transform the lives of disadvantaged children.


Jane Goodall
(conservationist & animal welfare activist)
·         Jane Goodall is considered to be the world's foremost expert on chimpanzees. She has studied the social and family interactions of wild chimpanzees for 45 years in Tanzania.
·         Goodall is a devoted vegetarian and advocates the diet for ethical, environmental, and health reasons.
·         Goodall has received many honours for her environmental and humanitarian work, as well as being named a United Nations Messenger of Peace.



Julie Andrews
(actress & singer)
·         Famous for her roles in Mary Poppins, The Sound of Music and The Princess Diaries.
·         Born in 1935 in Surrey, Julie Andrews has starred in theatre productions both in the West End, London and in Broadway, New York.
·         She had an incredible singing voice, covering four octaves, but it was damaged in 1997 because of a throat operation.
