World Kindness Day, November 13th: A BIG HUG

BE KIND FOR A BETTER WORLD: 

Schools across the globe are now celebrating World Kindness Day 

Events include THE BIG HUG. 

Cards are also an  activity which can either be passed on to recognise an act of kindness and/or ask that an act of ki ndness be done.
  The World Kindness Movement   unanimously sign a Declaration of Support for World Kindness.

According to Gulf News, "it is a day that encourages individuals to overlook boundaries, race and religion"

The Fiesta Nacional de España (Festa Nacional d'Espanya in Catalan/Valencian; Festa Nacional de España in Galician; Espainiako Jai Nazionala in Basque) is the national dayof Spain. It is held annually on October 12 and is a national holiday. It commemorates the anniversary of Christopher Columbus's first arrival in the Americas, a day also celebrated in other countries.

World Book Day or World Book and Copyright Day (also known as International Day of the Book or World Book Days) is a yearly event on 23 April, organized by UNESCO to promote reading, publishing and copyright. In the United Kingdom, the day is instead recognized on the first Thursday in March.

World Book Day was celebrated for the first time on 23 April 1995.

23 April is a symbolic date for world literature for on this date in 1616, Cervantes, Shakespeare and Inca Garcilaso de la Vega all died.

Por iniciativa del Consejo de Europa, Estrasburgo, se viene celebrando el Día Europeo de las Lenguas, cada año desde 2001, el 26 de septiembre.

En esta fechas se hace una llamada especial a más de 800 millones de europeos, representados en los 47 Estados miembros del Consejo de Europa, a que se animen a aprender otras lenguas, a cualquier edad, dentro y fuera de la escuela.
Convencidos de que la diversidad lingüística es una herramienta para lograr una mayor comprensión intercultural y un elemento clave en la rica herencia cultural de nuestro continente, el Consejo de Europa promueve el plurilingüismo para toda Europa.

Objetivos generales

• Alertar sobre la importancia del aprendizaje de idiomas y diversificar la gama de lenguas, a fin de incrementar el plurilingüismo y la comprensión intelectual.
• Promover la rica diversidad lingüística y cultural de Europa.
• Fomentar el aprendizaje permanente de idiomas dentro y fuera de las escuelas

De acuerdo con una encuesta realizada en febrero de 2006:

·         el 56% de los ciudadanos de la UE (25 Estados miembros) hablan un idioma distinto de su lengua materna,

·         el 44% admite sólo el aprendizaje, uso y conocimiento del idioma nativo,

·         el 38% de los ciudadanos de la UE indican que saben inglés,

·         el 14% que dominan el idioma alemán y francés.

El típico europeo multilingüe suele ser un estudiante o un titular de un cargo directivo.
La Unión Europea invierte 30 millones de euros al año para promover el aprendizaje de idiomas y la diversidad lingüística, a través de los programas “Sócrates” y “Leonardo DaVinci”, una política que comenzó en 1990 con el programa “Lingua”.

The 23rd of April we will celebrate `Book Day´. Many activities will take place in the World.

Do yo like reading? We think reading is the best way to celebrate this day.

El día 23 de abril fue elegido como Día del Libro y del Derecho de Autor, pues corresponde al fallecimiento de los escritores Miguel de Cervantes, William Shakespeare e Inca Garcilaso de la Vega en la misma fecha en el año 1616 (aunque realmente no es así: Cervantes falleció el 22 y fue enterrado el 23, mientras que Shakespeare murió el 23 de abril... del calendario juliano, que corresponde al 3 de mayo del calendario gregoriano). En esta fecha también fallecieron William Wordsworth (en 1850) y Josep Pla (en 1981). La Unión Internacional de Editores propuso esta fecha a la Unesco, con el objetivo de fomentar la cultura y la protección de la propiedad intelectual por medio del derecho de autor. La Conferencia General de la Unesco la aprobó en París el 15 de noviembre de 1995, por lo que a partir de dicha fecha el 23 de abril es el "Día Internacional del Libro y del Derecho de Autor".
